Three Supernaugh Memorial Scholarships Awarded

ANPR is proud to announce the recipients of the 2009 Bill Supernaugh Scholarships to attend the Ranger Rendezvous in Gettysburg, Pa. They are:

  • Stephanie Steinhorst, seasonal park ranger - interpretation at Death Valley, an ANPR member

  • Thomas Grant, Thomas Grant, seasonal visitor use assistant, Yosemite, and a student at Slippery Rock University, not currently an ANPR member

  • Christina Garton, student at New Mexico State University, an ANPR member

A panel of three ANPR board members made the selections based on short essays provided by the applicants. ANPR received 15 applications and it was difficult to make selections from the strong field.

The scholarship application process for 2010 to attend Ranger Rendezvous in Bend, Oregon, will open in the summer.

The family of the late Bill Supernaugh established the scholarship fund through ANPR in Bill’s memory to help several people attend their first Ranger Rendezvous. This allows others to experience the annual Rendezvous that Bill enjoyed so much, and also learn about ANPR. The eligibility criteria was:

1. Never attended a Ranger Rendezvous
2. Currently an NPS employee (permanent or seasonal) or an ANPR member
3. Able to attend the full week of the Rendezvous
