Additional information about the treasurer position:
The duties of this position have grown over the course of the last two years, so it's a great opportunity to challenge yourself and make a genuine contribution to the organization. In addition to paying bills, this person also monitors the Association's finances and develops quarterly reports. Bookkeeping skills or interest would be helpful initially in order to manage the QuickBooks database, create and manipulate accounts, and document the movement of money using journal entries, or to oversee these duties.

The treasurer works in tandem with the business office in Colorado, where most income deposits are made and health insurance premiums tracked. He or she also works closely with an accountant who monitors QuickBooks data and then prepares annual tax reports for the IRS. The treasurer invests ANPR's funds and monitors the investments, and may also contract with auditors or others to ensure accuracy of the Association's record keeping. This is a challenging position and an opportunity to make a real difference in the organization. For more information, contact the business manager, Teresa Ford, at fordedit@aol.com.

Responsibilies of Every Board Member:

  • Decision-Maker: develops and works to meet goals in the Strategic Plan; provides guidance and direction to the Association; establishes policies and plans; evaluates results.
  • Advisor and Advocate: acts as consultant to the board offering professional opinions; speaks to the members and relays issues and concerns to the board; speaks out to the NPS community, members, partners, etc., on behalf of the Association membership.
  • Administrator: maintains the board system; organizes, leads, and participates in meetings; provides financial guidance to the Association.

Time Commitment: To properly fulfill the duties of this position, the board member should expect to volunteer an average of one to two hours per week. While some weeks may have only minimal work, others may require substantial time. In order to move the work of the Association forward each board member should plan and coordinate a regular schedule of volunteer work.

Expenses: Each board member may be reimbursed for specific ANPR expenses. Reimbursement for the mid-year board meeting may include travel, lodging (one-half the rate of a shared hotel room), and child care expenses. No reimbursement is given for meals. Board members attend Rendezvous at their own expense. If the board meeting is conducted before or after the Rendezvous, board members will be reimbursed for the additional lodging and child care expenses. Miscellaneous Association expenses such as phone calls, postage and printing will be reimbursed if within the approved budget of the member.
