New Noncompetitive Hiring Authority Announced
A new hiring authority has been established for Public Land Corps alumni. It grants noncompetitive hiring status to former PLC members who've served a minimum of 960 hours of satisfactory service on an appropriate conservation project with at least 120 PLC hours. 
ANPR Election News
Stacy D. Allen is the new president elect of ANPR. Members recently voted to fill positions on the ANPR Board of Directors. Results are posted here. 
Bevinetto Congressional Fellows Selected
ANPR life member Kirsten Talken-Spaulding and David A. Smith have been chosen as the two Bevinetto Congressional Fellows for 2010-11.

ANPR life member Deanne Adams is the new president of the International Ranger Federation. She was elected in November 2009 during the World Congress in Bolivia. Life member Jeff Ohlfs is the new North American representative.

Directors discusses change in leadership, continued commitment to park advocacy
role
The Board of Directors has mailed a letter June 28, 2004, to its members to address the recent resignation of its president and the appointment of a successor. In addition, Lee Werst, the Association's new president, offers a statement about the recent events and promises to continue advocating for parks, resources and employees of the National Park Service. 
Ken
Mabery steps down as ANPR president
ANPR's president of the past two-plus years issued this statement June 9, 2004, to the ANPR Board of Directors: "As of this date I have resigned as president of ANPR and resigned from the board of directors. The time that we have spent together has been wonderful. Thank you."

Listed here are activities of the ANPR president and board members in recent months. 
Letters to U.S. Parole Commission and U.S. Attorney General
ANPR has sent two letters -- one June 11, 2005, to U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and one Aug. 26, 2005, to the U.S. Parole Commission -- strongly protesting the proposed release of Veronza Bowers, who was convicted and sentenced in San Francisco Federal District Court to a life term in prison for the murder of Ranger Ken Patrick in 1973. 
2006 NPS Management Policies finalized
The final edition of the National Park Service's 2006 Management Policies have been released, culminating an extensive and intense public and internal review process. The NPS received more than 45,000 comments during the review period. ANPR members contributed more than 60 pages of comments during that period. The policies state that conservation and enjoyment are both important on park lands, but when in conflict, conservation remains predominant. Here is the official

Comments to the Draft 2006 NPS Management Policies
ANPR members submitted these consolidated comments in mid-February regarding the draft Management Policies.
Testimony on the Hill Several ANPR members accepted an invitation to give testimony May 10 before the Senate Subcommittee on National Parks. They traveled to Washington, D.C., on their own time and at their own expense. Posted 5/13/05.

Retired national park rangers offer five tips to reduce injuries, save lives. 
Press Conference about Park Funding ANPR's Executive Director, Jeff McFarland, participated in a press conference March 17, 2004, with the Coalition of Concerned National Park Retirees and the Campaign to Protect America's Lands. Remarks focused on the administration's proposed budget of inadequate funding levels for the National Park Service.
