Leadership: NPS and Beyond
Speaker: J.T. Reynolds
Reynolds will reflect on how controversial issues in NPS bring about leadership; describe personal sacrifices that must be made; explore shared stewardship and management of protected areas on a world stage, and express his views on the future role of ANPR leadership.

ANPR "Town Meeting" on NPS Human Capital
Speaker: Jerry Simpson, moderated by Liz Roberts
This forum is an opportunity for ANPR to share ideas and concepts as well as concerns about the NPS/ranger workforce, importance of leadership development, diversity and staying relevant, and developing change management capability (so parks and organizations can navigate the impacts of core operations and multiple changes.

Sharing the Leadership Legacy
Speakers: (Panel) Mike Anderson, Dale Antonich, Stuart Schneider, moderated by Tomie Patrick Lee
The Harry Yount Award is a peer-recognition honor that recognizes a ranger's overall impact, accomplishments and excellence in traditional park rangering. The panel members, all national Yount recipients and thereby defined as leaders, will address what "leadership" means to them; how one exhibits/displays that ability; and how one develops/fosters leaders and leadership in others.

2006 Stephen T. Mather Award Presentation
Speaker: Craig Obey, National Parks Conservation Association
Named for the first director of the National Park Service, NPCA gives the Stephen T. Mather Award annually to people who have demonstrated initiative and resourcefulness in promoting environmental protection in the national parks, taken significant action where others have hesitated, and exemplified the principles of good park stewardship.

Informal Gathering: Report on the International Ranger Federation and 2006 IRF World Congress, Sterling, Scotland
Speaker: Meg Weesner
As the North America Representative on the International executive Committee of the International Ranger Federation, Meg will report on the 2006 IRF World Congress. She'll also show the insightful 37-minute video, The Thin Green Line, developed by Sean Willmore, a park ranger with Victoria Parks, Australia.

This session will address distinguishing crisis from emergency response, the science of risk communication — your best management approach, the communication process for emergency response, and meeting the needs of the public and news media.

Lessons Learned - Make it Work for You
Speaker: Dave Christenson
Learn what the Wildland Fire Lessons Learned Center does and why; learn what anyone can use at the Center; and be able to find your way back to the Center.

Advocating Environmental Leadership - An Authors' Panel
Speakers: Eric Blehm, Peter Stekel, moderated by Teresa Ford
Writers can have great influence over what people think about and how ideas are shaped. Whether fact or fiction, scientific or popular culture, their stories can plant a seed or deepen beliefs. These two authors will discuss their motivations and approaches to writing projects, and their personal connections to the environment and the stories they tell.

Becoming a Learning Organization
Speakers: Dave Christenson and Dave Thomas
Christenson and Thomas will discuss what learning organizations are and why they excel; offer a private "litmus test" to see if your organization is a LO; show a short DVD on "Conducting Effective After Action Reviews;" and explore other ways to "Lead Learning."

Managing the Unexpected
Speakers: Dave Christenson and Dave Thomas
You will learn to use disaster analysis as a bridge to high reliability organizing; explain the principles of high reliability organizing/mindfulness; through facilitated exercises, use the principles of mindfulness in real-life situations; and construct a list of major issues identified from the facilitated exercises.

Interpretation in the 21st Century
Speaker: Deanne Adams
By the end of the session, participants will have a clear understanding of the context that makes an Interpretation and Education Renaissance viable; understand the connection between the Business Plan and Renaissance Action Plan; value the existing work of parks and see how that can be leveraged for changes proposed in the Renaissance Action Plan; feel that their park and they as individuals have a role to play in implementation of the Renaissance Action Plan.
